Holme Building Pleasaunce.

Sydney university NSW

Campus

The Heritage-listed Holme Building is the main administrative presence of the University of Sydney Union (USU). Built 1910-1912, the objective of the upgrade project was to make improvements to key facilities and to revitalise the area, centred on the courtyard known as the Pleasaunce, and to create a more vibrant social precinct with food / beverage offerings, improved function and conference facilities, arts practice studios and boutique performance theatres.

The Pleasaunce upgrade proposed by Darren provides both a convenient space for students to enjoy lunch and an extension to the bar / restaurant space in the evenings, with improved seating, dining and a flexible space for entertainment. Shade is provided with new trees and new lighting, power supply paving and stormwater drainage incorporating WSUD measures have all been provided all according to current Australian Standards. Paving of the Pleasaunce is designed to interpret the original paving pattern.

Archival photographic recording of the existing buildings and open space was required prior to the commencement of construction work.
