brisbane airport central parking area
Green infastructure - airports
This Brisbane Airport project involved the provision of 40 hectares of new at-grade car parking adjacent to an ecologically sensitive mangrove habitat. Urban and landscape design was a high priority in this project – a key design objective was to seamlessly blend the built environment with the natural.
Sustainability was an important tenet of the client’s brief, and the solution embodies significant water sensitive urban design in the form of vegetated water quality swales planted with macrophytes and grasses.
Darren also completed the design, tender documentation and construction phase services for Stage One of the Central Parking Area which includes staff car parking, ground transport operations, taxi holding, service station and café. The landscape design integrated with civil works to provide best practice in Water Sensitive Urban Design.
Shade from trees was maximized by orienting the parking rows to the north. Bus shelters have been designed as both wayfinding devices and to provide passive solar comfort.
Darren have also assisted in formulating the client’s detailed Program of Requirements (functional design brief) and the Development Control Plan for further phases of the project.
