Campus
HBO+EMTB was commissioned by the Australian Catholic University to provide a campus masterplan for their North Sydney Campus. Darren led the project over 4 years. His design philosophy for the overall campus masterplan was to link the existing site features and create a unique identity for the North Sydney Campus based around the idea of a “Community Campus” composed of “Social Spaces”.
Considering that the campus has evolved around a heritage building and its surrounding gardens our aim has been to maintain and restore the Vice Chancellery building as the principal focal point of the site while strengthening the two principal axis’s which traverse the site. The masterplan identifies a series of staged works, nearly all of which are completed including the Upper Courtyard and Chapel Walk, The Vice Chancellors Garden with ample shaded seating for students during lunchtime, and a Mary Garden associated with a new campus chapel which features only plants with historic links to Mary.
